Additional Meiklejohn Fellows Career Resources

In addition to the first-year Meiklejohn Fellows programming, Meiklejohn Fellows are encouraged to take advantage of other Loeb Center resources to support their internship and job search efforts.

Charles Hamilton Houston Internship Program

The Houston Program is the Loeb Center’s signature internship program designed to assist Amherst students with searching for and completing summer internships.  In addition to workshops focused on career development fundamentals, including resume and cover letter building, students who have secured an unpaid summer internship may submit a request to the program for a stipend of up to $5,000. Meiklejohn Fellows who have gone through the first-year program and/or already used their Meiklejohn stipend should consider participating in Houston.  Visit the Houston Program webpage for more details.

Peer Career Advisors (PCAs)

Peer Career Advisors are trained to give students guidance on how to draft and edit resumes and cover letters for internship and job applications.  Additionally, PCAs can help answer questions about Loeb Center resources.  Make an appointment in Handshake with a PCA (look for the appointment category “Peer Career Advisor (PCA) Resume and Cover Letter Review Appointments”.  PCAs also hold weekly drop in resume clinics during the fall and spring semester.  Appointments and clinics are not available during campus holidays and breaks.

Career Community Advisors

The Loeb Center six Career Communities offer students the opportunity to work with an advisor who has the industry expertise and connections necessary to help give students a deeper understanding of pathways into specific sectors and industries.  Make an appointment with a Career Community Advisor in Handshake.  Sign up for each community’s newsletter to stay up-to-date on events, new job and internship postings, and other opportunities.  Events are also posted in Handshake with the ability to register.
