NLADA Digital Communications Intern Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
- Two (2) openings now hiring for SPRING and/or SUMMER SEMESTER

Help us implement a robust digital communications campaign designed to take our organization’s digital communications to the next level through spreading knowledge, increasing engagement and leveraging our collective power to create the change we want to see in the world.
This position is flexible Monday – Friday and averages around 20-30 hours per week or more if you would like. You have the opportunity to work for one or more semesters and you can get academic credit if your institution approves.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The NLADA Digital Communications Intern will support the Communication team’s efforts to develop and implement social media outreach, email, marketing and promotional campaigns and website maintenance that will boost brand engagement and increase awareness. As the Digital Communications Intern, you will get a chance to:
- Design and execute social media campaigns
- Develop your Content Management System skills by preparing webpages, editing website HTML, arranging different types of media on pages and writing site copy.
- Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote NLADA on various social media platforms
- Create, edit, format and upload compelling graphics and videos to share across all of NLADA’s online channels
- Assist with the development of a social media strategy aligned with the mission of expanding equal access to justice for all.
- Build your portfolio by brainstorming original content and identify mission-relevant content across verified news sources to share on our various platforms
- Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
- Support the Comms team at live and virtual events
- Expand your knowledge of all communications activities by assisting the communications team with various assigned tasks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal Digital Communications Intern candidate attends a local undergraduate or graduate program in the Washington D.C. regional area and has diverse personal, educational and technical qualifications These include:
- A passion for social justice and public service
- One or more years of experience in digital communications or social media (it can be personal experience, but your work must be made available to NLADA for review)
- Impeccable oral and written communication skills
- Excellent internet research skills
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to website maintenance
- Proficiency with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc.)
- Experience with image/video editing software (Photoshop, Canva, Hootsuite, Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Mastery of the major social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn
- Knowledge of social media management and analytics software (Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Facebook Insights, etc.)
In addition to the essential functions listed above, this position also requires the intern to be able to do the following:
- Constantly communicate fluently in oral and written English
- Constantly communicate effectively with NLADA staff and outside parties over multiple modalities such as phone, e-mail, video conferencing, etc.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment which may require repetitive movements
- Frequently navigate multiple programs both on the NLADA network (such as e-mail, calendar, etc.) as well as shared programs with outside networks
- Frequently research, view, read, and comprehend materials related to social media, staff, and other stakeholders
- Frequently navigate the office environment to access file cabinets, drawers, office equipment and machinery, etc.
- Occasionally travel to the NLADA office located in Washington, D.C.
- Rarely lift weights up to 30 pounds (e.g., files, boxes, etc.)

This position is unpaid, but eligible for academic credit if approved by your institution. To perform this job successfully, the Digital Communications Intern must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
