[ Music ] >> I was always envious of those students that knew exactly what they wanted to do once they graduated school. I wasn't so fortunate. But like nearly 30% of students, I never visited my college career center. Big mistake. According to a recent survey, 72% of graduating seniors who were looking to enter the workforce visited their college career center for help. And of that group, 36% made frequent visits. So why visit your college career center? To find a job and get hired of course. >> All right guys, that's a wrap. >> Whoa [chuckles]! There's quite a bit more to it than that. Let's start with self discovery. You can't get what you want if you don't know what that is and if you don't know who you are. Knowing yourself will help you determine the right career for you. The career center has the people and strategies to help you figure out who you are, and also the careers and companies that might be a good fit for you. Here are some services that career centers offer to help you get on the right track [music]. Self-assessment tests. One-on-one counseling. Job descriptions and company profiles. Information on the latest industry trends. And seminars and career panel discussions. >> I would definitely encourage any student to go to a career center. There's nothing -- there's no down side to going, right? So if you go, you talk to people. You get some experience. You get some advice about how to go about getting the best experience. I don't see why there'd be any reason not to do that. And it definitely helped, you know, talking to people in the college communications about how do I get to the next step? That led to an internship with ESPN. >> Now that you know who you are and what you want, the next big part of the equation is improving yourself. Career centers can provide the expertise and training to help make you an attractive candidate to potential employers. Here are some other ways the Career Center can help you [music]. Interview practice. Goal setting and decision making. Get help with resume writing. Strategies on how to promote your strengths and explain your weaknesses. Major and career prerequisite guidance. Now it's time to meet people and get hired. Here's how the Career Center can help you find that job. Career fairs. Networking and alumni connections. And job and internship listings. [Music] just the action of getting up and going to your Career Center is proactive. It's saying that your future's important to you.
