Post-Baccalaureate Course Work Option

The Health Professions Committee is now accepting applications from current Amherst College sophomores (rising juniors) for the Post-Baccalaureate Coursework Option. Members of the Class of 2025 who receive financial aid are eligible to apply.

The College will support up to three students in the Class of 2025 to return to Amherst for one or two semesters after graduation (during the 2025 – 2026 academic year), in order to complete remaining science requirements for medical school.

The goal is to assist students who are best served academically by spreading out the required courses for medical school admission. Students in this program will be expected to successfully graduate on time, having completed a major by May 2025. They would then return to campus in fall 2025 to take up to two Amherst College math or science courses that semester, and up to an additional two courses if needed in the spring semester of 2026. On occasion, students may be eligible to take a Five College course as part of the program, but only upon the approval of the program advisor.

In addition to taking the courses, students in the program are expected to be involved in other health-, service-, and/or science-related activities such as research or volunteering (payment for which is covered by the program scholarship). There will be no charge for tuition, and room and board will be provided for participants in this program. On-campus housing is required.

NOTE: This program is intended for students who have a demonstrated financial need.

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 15, 2023 at 11:59pm.
