After the Job and Internship Fair
This might be the most important aspect of networking: saying thank you. Expressing gratitude for people’s time and advice is essential, regardless of whether it is a one-time interaction or a relationship that will grow and develop.
Follow the organization on Handshake, and turn on alerts to receive notifications when new positions or events are posted.
This takes time. What you decide to highlight in your resume, cover letter, and any other application materials will change depending on what you learned in a session and what you discussed in 1:1 conversations, etc. This means that all your applications will look different while still being authentic and honest to you and your experiences.
You may not hear back from organizations right away. Do not be discouraged. Set a reminder on your calendar to follow up about your application materials. Consider reconnecting to update your contact on a few relevant academic or professional experiences that have happened since the Job and Internship Fair.
Schedule an appointment with an advisor to talk through your next steps and action plan for your job or internship search. Feeling confused or overwhelmed about what to do next? Reach out to a Loeb Center advisor, who can provide guidance on how to proceed.
