The Seasonal Camper Support Intern (CSI) plays a vital role in the success of The STEM Connection (TSC) by providing behavioral and management support for day campers attending TSC summer camps, as well as offering support to camp staff, and contributing to the organization’s efforts to deliver high-quality programming. This is a full-time seasonal (summer) position, approximately late May through early August.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with the Camper Support Specialist to organize and implement social-emotional learning and character-building curriculum with campers, and provide SEL and behavior support for campers
  • Assist with aspects of assigned program(s), including managing lesson plans, policies, staff training, supplies, and communication (programs: Summer Camp, STEM Future Leaders)
  • Contribute to the overall success of TSC’s mission and vision by performing other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to complete tasks in a professional, effective, and efficient manner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also independently
  • Driven, patient, and hard-working
  • Coachable, flexible, and proactive in anticipating needs and solving problems
  • Desire to move the mission and vision of TSC forward
  • Ability to work full-time (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm), the end of May through the middle of August 2026 (off July 5-July 10)

Education and/or Experience

  • Studying or experience in education, school counseling, social work, psychology, youth development, or a similar field, and/or experience working with youth is a plus
  • Ability to take direction and multitask
  • Successful completion of a background check and TSC onboarding and required training (CPR, Safeguarding Youth, and other role-specific training)
  • Google Docs or PowerPoint, Word, and Excel experience is a plus
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Position based in Indianapolis, IN
  • Highly collaborative work environment in a shared barn office space, and regular outdoor work in natural settings
  • Meetings and tasks are conducted in varied spaces, including a barn, outdoor shelters, a yurt, and walking trails year-round
  • Barn office includes a friendly resident cat who roams freely and is part of the team. Candidates with allergies or pet sensitivities should be aware
  • Multi-functional workspace requires close working quarters with colleagues during certain weather or programming needs
  • Barn workspace is frequently reconfigured to meet organizational needs
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours as required to support the organization’s mission, primarily to support our annual fundraising event, Sunflowers at Sunset
  • Enclosed footwear is required (no sandals, heels, crocs) when on-site, athletic shoes or hiking boots are preferred
  • Occasionally expected to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Position requires navigation of gravel, rough nature trails, and fields
  • Working conditions will involve exposure to varying noise levels, outdoor temperatures (both high and low, depending on the season), and direct sunlight
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
