We’re hiring a hands-on, people-friendly IT generalist to support one client company. The work is straightforward: purchase and set up laptops/keyboards/peripherals, help folks navigate everyday software, and handle installs/configuration. You’ll visit the office once per week for on-site tasks and handle light follow-ups remotely the rest of the time.
What you’ll do
Procure and provision user gear (laptops, monitors, keyboards, headsets)
Perform new-hire setups: accounts, email, MFA/SSO, basic security settings
Install and configure common apps (Office 365/Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, browsers, VPN)
Troubleshoot everyday issues (passwords, printers, Wi-Fi, updates, email/calendar)
Keep simple asset records and update documentation/runbooks
Coordinate with vendors (warranty, ISP, software support) when needed
Spend one set day per week onsite; handle basic tickets/messages in between
Skills we’re looking for but not all required:
Comfortable with Windows and/or macOS setup & basics
Familiar with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace admin (creating users, mailboxes, groups)
Basic networking (Wi-Fi, DHCP/DNS basics, printer setup, VPN clients)
Software install/updates, endpoint hardening basics (AV, disk encryption, MFA)
Clear communication and a friendly, patient approach with non-technical users
Minimum requirements
Reliable transportation for weekly onsite visit
Strong organization and follow-through; can document simple steps/checklists
Authorization to work in the U.S.
Nice to have (optional)
Experience with device management (Intune/Autopilot, Jamf, or similar MDM)
Prior helpdesk or campus IT experience
Scripting basics (PowerShell/Bash) a plus, not required
Schedule & location
~10–20 hours/week (flexible)
Onsite once per week at the client office: Alameda, CA
Light remote work for follow-ups as needed
Compensation
Hourly: $22–$40/hr DOE (enter your range)
Mileage reimbursement for any approved local runs
How to apply
Submit your resume and a short note on: (1) a time you helped someone with a simple tech problem, and (2) your weekly availability for the onsite day.
