Overview

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Grant Writer is responsible for both working on grant applications upon request and proactively seeking out opportunities for funding from a variety of sources such as local government and private foundations.

Position Overview

  • Learn extensively about People First, homelessness and housing in the County and beyond, and the current funding landscape
  • Meet with Executive Director and Fractional Development Consultant to discuss existing organizational, programmatic, administrative, client, and staff needs to guide the grant finding and application process
  • Research grants, foundations, and review the grant cycle spreadsheet for possible funding sources
  • Determine which funding sources would allow for bolstering existing programs and administrative work, and which ones would allow for building new programs and developing the administrative sector of the organization
  • Assess the viability of pursuing said funding sources based on the needs and capacity of the organization and discuss possibilities with the appropriate program manager(s) and/or director(s)
  • Use Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (SMART) objective to ensure grant aligns with People First’s mission, vision, and values
  • Devote adequate time weekly to work on the application that the Grant Writer, and relevant team members, have determined would be most beneficial to pursue
  • Set a completion deadline of a week prior to application due date, and review the submission portal requirements far enough in advance to ensure all documentation and required materials are collected in a timely fashion
  • Meet as needed with the Accountant and Board of Director’s Treasurer to collect any necessary financial information for the application
  • Meet as needed with program managers and directors to work together on on any necessary reporting/updates required for existing contracts/grants

Requirements

  • Able to reliably get to and from the People First administrative office for in-person meetings
  • Able to reliably and proactively communicate with team members via email and occasionally text/phone call
  • Able to self-structure time and tasks (independent) as well as solicit and incorporate feedback (collaborative)
  • Has 1-2 years of grant writing experience, or relevant capstone coursework, with a portfolio

This position is a part time, non-exempt, nonbenefited position. Part time expectations are variable, with an average of 10 hours of work per month. This hybrid role allows for remote work, though occasional in-person visits to the office or the Armory Shelter are required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
