SCHEDULE: up to 10 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 9am-3pm
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Residential Program Internship is an excellent opportunity for any college student, especially BSW or MSW, pursuing a career in chemical dependency, trauma and/or housing instability. You’ll gain valuable resume experience in performing intake and documentation, housing placements, mental health or chemical dependency referrals, community collaboration and learning an electronic records system. For students participating with Open Door Mission for 1 semester you will shadow a case manager or supervisor and provide daily support. For students participating for 2 semesters you will get an opportunity to lead a case with oversight from an MSW case manager supervisor.
Open Door Mission is a 501c3 religiously exempt nonprofit. While religious affiliation is not a requirement of this internship opportunity, the primary work environment is within a non-denominational, Christian rescue mission that regularly offers opportunity to staff and clients for Christian development in addition to our regular program curriculum.
Examples of Work:
- Assist in the implementation and supervision of recreational activities, including but not limited to meals, Bible study and fellowship, life skills groups and programming, daily chores and homework, urine screening and room inspections.
- As needed, collect, verify and secure all necessary documentation for intake and referrals, checking check for accuracy.
- Regularly practice adherence to facility and program requirements.
- Under the direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may provide linkage/referrals to community resources.
- Under direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may facilitate a group for mental health, social, spiritual, recreational, or housing, and other basic needs.
- Under the direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may assist in research of community resources.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
· Excellent research and communication skills
· Strong organizational skills
· Ability to work professionally with individuals are various backgrounds
· Computer literate, ability to use basic office equipment and software systems for communication and documentation.
· Interest in homelessness, nonprofits, and/or faith based organizations
· Enrolled in a 4- year program, studying social work, mental health, or other related field
