Are you ready for a Summer that you’ll remember for the rest of your life? You’ll experience Swamp Base runs a 5-day, 4-night, 61.6-mile-long paddling trail in the Atchafalaya River Basin. We offer this trek to youth organizations from across the country. We are looking for trek guides and program staff to facilitate these treks. As a staff member you will enjoy the most fun job you’ve ever had, celebrate Louisiana’s rich culture, share your passion for the outdoors, makes friendships that last a lifetime, and grow in your own personal way.
While on the water, all meals are provided. Things like red beans and rice, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, gumbo, and po-boys are served. For staff from out-of-town, housing in Lafayette, LA is also provided during your days off. Our season begins with staff training in late May and runs to late July.
We have a few different positions available each season.
- Trek Guides are responsible for getting groups from one overnight location to the next. They will be an authority on the water to keep people safe, but are also responsible for the majority of socializing, motivation, and education. If you like paddling, this is the spot for you. (Ages 18+)
- Location staff are responsible for providing meals, running programs, and keeping facilities in order. We have a 24-acre island in the middle of a lake with access to electricity, a hiking trail, and fantastic sunsets. (Ages 17+)
- Not all of our jobs are in the swamp; we have two crucial pieces of the operation that are in civilization.
- Our orientation guide will give a presentation, check health forms, and arrange dinner on arrival day.
- Our other in-town team is the quartermasters, who are in charge of cleaning and loading equipment, organizing food supplies, and other base-related tasks. (These positions are usually filled by local applicants.)
We hope to speak to you soon!
