Science Intern

Job Description:

1) Cultivates, isolates, and assists in identifying bacteria and other microbial organisms, and performs various bacteriological, mycological, virological, and parasitological tests

2) Examines materials for evidence of microbial organisms.

3) Makes microbial tests of specimens.

The standard routine includes but not limited to:

  • Standard and non-standard lab prep procedures
  • Record data in a specified manner (some clerical work involved)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment
  • Autoclave duties – trash needs to be autoclaved
  • Lab clean-up
  • Clerical duties such as data entry, report generation, and answering phones.
  • In addition, work on special projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s or pursing degree in Science in Microbiology or Biology

Preference will be given to those applicants with one year or more on the job experience in a microbiology laboratory.

Must have some LAB experience, either commercial or academic

Must have good Communication Skills (will have some client interaction)

Must have good Data Entry and Computer Skills

Able to work independently and with a team

Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

Some knowledge of molecular biology, genetic engineering, physiology, biochemistry
