What to Consider When Applying to Teach at Aspire
We will review applications from college students as soon as we receive them and will begin interviewing applicants on a rolling basis. Typically, the majority of our core teachers are committed by the end of March. Once all positions are filled, we will close our application portal. We encourage you to submit your application early. Feel free to contact us at email@example.com about your timeline.
Candidates must be available to work the entire session, Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program runs from June 12 – July 26, 2024. (Note exceptions: Aspire is closed for holidays on June 19th, July 4th and 5th, 2024.) Attendance at two or three evening events during the summer is also required. Significant time outside of the school day is typically required for designing lessons, planning classes, and assessing student work.
Core Teacher positions are open to current college sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with consideration of freshmen who have significant teaching and/or youth mentoring experience.
Compensation: Starting at $2,400
Housing and Transportation:
Most CTs must secure their own housing for the summer, but Aspire can provide some support with a housing search as needed. We encourage applicants from all geographic locations to apply. Hathaway Brown School is accessible by public transportation; however, the train schedule is a bit limiting.
Description of the Core Teaching Position
Teaching an Academic Class – College students are responsible for implementing creative, engaging classes that support the academic needs of middle school girls. They design, plan, and teach three sections (approximately 12 students in each) of language arts, science, social studies, or math. Core Teachers fulfill all responsibilities associated with teaching classes, including selection of specific activities, class planning & preparation, and student feedback (including written comments about student growth). CTs are the lead teachers in the classroom and are supported by a team of experienced teachers who are available to answer questions and guide teaching practices.
Teaching a Workshop – Core Teachers share their expertise and personal interests in afternoon workshops of their own design. Offerings such as dance, drama, world language, visual arts, entrepreneurship, and robotics broaden students’ exposure.
Related Responsibilities – Core Teachers work together to run some morning meetings in order to help set a positive tone and create a widespread feeling of community at Aspire. CTs offer/supervise daily student choice period, help with the Aspire Olympics and Talent Show, and leadership seminar.
Faculty Meetings and Events – All Core Teachers are required to attend Teacher Orientation and Program Wrap-Up days as these are critical training and team building periods. Attendance at a few special events outside of the school day (Family Night and Closing Ceremony, for example) is expected. Additionally, college students attend regular staff meetings regarding teaching, program details, and student progress throughout the summer.
Session Dates: June 12-July 26, 2024. (No Aspire, June 19, July 4 and 5)
Aspire Core Teachers (CTs) must work the entire session, Monday-Friday, 8:15am – 4:30pm
