Position Description

The Simons Center for Quantitative Biology is pioneering the next generation of AI-driven biological research by creating a dynamic collaboration between experimental genomics and cutting-edge machine learning models. Our vision is to transform our understanding of gene regulation and unlock new frontiers in synthetic biology, drug discovery, and personalized medicine through rapid, iterative cycles of experimentation and AI model development. We are seeking applications for the position of Research Technician.

Position Responsibilities

Successful candidates will join a collaborative team of quantitative biologists (led by Dr. Peter Koo) and functional genomics scientists (led by Dr. Kenneth Chang). In these roles, you will design and conduct large-scale functional genomic experiments, including:

  • Massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs)
  • Protein deep mutational scanning (DMS) assays
  • CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) screens
  • Genomic base-editing screens

These experiments will be directly tied to AI model development, helping to generate data that trains and refines next-generation AI models. Unlike traditional wet-lab roles, these positions offer the opportunity to directly contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI models, fostering a unique integration of experimentation and computation.

Additionally, you will collaborate with and support other scientists at CSHL, executing functional genomics experiments to meet a diverse array of research needs, with a focus on accelerating AI-driven discoveries.

Position Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related biological discipline.
Preferred: Experience in molecular cloning and mammalian cell culture Familiarity with genetic screens, such as MPRAs. Interest in learning about AI modeling

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic, collaborative environment at the intersection of cutting-edge genomics and machine learning research.
  • Training in advanced genome-scale screening techniques and the chance to work on high-impact, innovative AI projects.
