Summer Nursing Internship / Health Care Assistant (Sleepaway Camp)

Camp Kamaji – Minnesota (Live-In Position)
Summer 2026

Overview:

Skip the typical summer job—this is hands-on experience that actually moves your nursing career forward.

Camp Kamaji is hiring nursing students to work alongside our Health Center team in a traditional sleepaway summer camp setting. You’ll gain real-world experience in assessment, medication administration, communication, and independent decision-making—all while working with a supportive RN and leadership team.

This is a fast-paced, people-centered role where you’ll build confidence, clinical judgment, and practical skills you won’t get in a classroom and can’t get yet working in a clinical/hospital setting.

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct experience with medication administration and treatment protocols
  • Practice with health assessments and clinical decision-making
  • Exposure to pediatric care in a dynamic, non-hospital setting
  • Experience communicating with parents, providers, and leadership
  • Strong foundation in documentation, confidentiality, and care coordination
  • Leadership and teamwork experience in a real-world environment

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in daily operations of the camp Health Center (called “Club Med”)
  • Administer medications and treatments under RN supervision
  • Conduct camper/staff health screenings
  • Monitor and care for patients in the Health Center
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records
  • Communicate with families when campers are seen for care
  • Support health and safety practices across camp
  • Help train staff on basic first aid, CPR, and wellness practices
  • Be a visible, approachable presence for campers and staff

Who This Is For

  • Nursing Students (preferably 3rd year or beyond but not required)
  • Experience working with children (camp experience a plus)
  • CNA, LPN, Associate’s in Nursing, or relevant healthcare experience
  • Current CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain-offered as part of our training)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism
  • Calm, level-headed, and able to respond effectively in urgent situations
  • Willingness to live on-site and fully participate in camp life
  • Students interested in pediatrics, community health, school nursing, or camp nursing
  • Individuals who are responsible, adaptable, and calm under pressure
  • Those who want real responsibility—not just shadowing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a nursing program (BSN or ADN)
  • CPR & First Aid certified (or willing to obtain; offered as part of position)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to live on-site and fully engage in camp life

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with patients in the healthcare field
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to live on-site for 10 weeks of the summer
  • Patience, Motivated, Good Team member and communicator
  • Ability to traverse uneven, wood-chipped paths by foot
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to receive during staff training
  • Trustworthy and ability to maintain confidentiality

What Makes This Different

This is not a passive internship.

You’ll be:

  • Making decisions
  • Building relationships with campers and peers
  • Managing real situations (with support)
  • Learning how to think—not just what to do

If you want a summer that builds both your resume and your confidence, this is it.

Living & Working at Camp

  • On-site, residential position
  • Room and board included
  • Tight-knit, supportive team environment with people from all over the world
  • Long days—but meaningful, energizing work
  • Feel your impact each and every day.
  • It’s Fun!
