Your Finance Recruiting Journey Starts Here
Second-years (Class of 2029), the main finance recruiting season has officially begun. Firms are opening applications for summer 2028 internships across investment banking, private equity, asset management, and related areas.
It is still early, but now is a good time to build on your strong foundation with more urgency. For example, Evercore’s application opened last week but is not due until mid-November. Use this time to refine your resume, connect with alums and employers, and track deadlines as applications are released.
Please stay close to the Finance Collections Page for application deadlines and new opportunities. You are not on this journey alone. If you feel stuck on an application, networking call, or interview, please book time with the Loeb Center.
Third- and fourth-years (Classes of 2028 and 2027) should also continue checking the Finance Collections Page. Opportunities remain available with smaller investment banks and in areas such as product, equity research, risk, and communications.
Recruiting looks different across firms and career paths. Stay engaged, continue exploring, and book an appointment if you would like support identifying opportunities that fit your interests.
Finance on Campus: Deutsche Bank, Group 1001, and More
On-campus highlights include Group 1001 Investments, featuring Amherst alum Stephen Koenig ’14. This is a strong opportunity for students interested in private credit and investment management. We will also host Deutsche Bank, where Andrew Callaway ’97, Managing Director, has engaged with Amherst students and supported the firm’s recruiting efforts.
I also want to highlight Falcon Partners Executive Search as an excellent opportunity for students interested in finance but more drawn to the people side of the industry. The work provides exposure to senior leaders and financial-services firms without centering on financial modeling
The Hartford Financial Services Group is another strong option for students interested in financial services but not necessarily in banking. The Hartford offers career paths across finance, economics, strategy, and underwriting. This is also a great opportunity for students interested in building a career in Western Massachusetts or Northern Connecticut, where the cost of living can be more manageable than in larger financial hubs.

Fall Sports: Home Game Advising
I receive many questions that need a quick answer, such as advice on one company versus another, a brief resume or cover letter review before you submit an application, or help preparing for a networking conversation. These may not require a full advising appointment, but they are still important.
This Saturday (9/19), I will be on campus during several home games. Stop by with a quick question, for a brief check-in, or to say hello.
- Field Hockey vs. Middlebury | 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
- Women’s Soccer vs. Middlebury | 12:15–1:15 p.m.
- Football vs. Bates | 1:30–2:45 p.m.
- Men’s Soccer vs. Middlebury | 3:00–4:00 p.m.
Networking
Remember that the goal of networking is to learn—not simply ask for a referral. Focus on building a few meaningful connections, asking thoughtful questions, and developing a genuine understanding of the firm, its people, and its work.
When reaching out to Amherst alums, be intentional. Start with one alumnus at a firm, follow up once after about five business days if needed, and prioritize quality conversations over the quantity of outreach.
Looking for firms to explore? Use the Amherst Alumni Directory to identify alums at organizations you’re interested in. Here is also a list of alums who have volunteered to connect with students. Please focus on one connection at a time and be thoughtful with their time.
