Attend Sophomore Summit! Don’t just show up physically—be present, engaged, and open to new experiences. The experience is only as meaningful as the effort you put in.
When I was a Sophomore, I had the opportunity to participate in the event as a student, but I probably did not make the most of it. The Loeb Center provides so many amazing opportunities to learn from upperclassmen and alumni with a wide range of experiences. I didn’t go to every talk I wanted to, because I wanted to spend time with my friends, but you have all four years for that, and only three days for Sophomore Summit.
Even though I did not do everything I wanted, I still learned so much about future opportunities, how to strengthen my resume and cover letters, and how to plan for internships that would help me build experience before graduation. The summit helped me feel confident in my path to becoming a professional. My favorite part was talking with alumni and hearing how they navigated the journey from Amherst to where they are now.
Since I loved the idea of Sophomore Summit and had a good experience as a student, I decided to come back as a Peer Leader my Junior year. Working with my group reminded me just how valuable the event can be. Looking back, I realize that Sophomore Summit isn’t just about career preparation; it’s also about learning to take ownership of your growth, be curious, and see possibility in every conversation.
