A common question pre-law students ask is, “What should I major in to be competitive for admission to law school?” However, no single or combination of majors alone will give you a competitive advantage in the application process. Individuals from various academic and professional backgrounds have successfully applied to and been admitted to law school. When selecting a major and registering for classes, pre-law students should focus on pursuing courses that they are genuinely interested in and can excel in, are challenging, and allow them to cultivate key skills that will be beneficial in preparing them for the demands of law school and the legal profession (i.e. writing, researching, and critical, close reading).
