What makes us feel good about our work? | Dan Ariely

During your time at Amherst and probably even before, you’ve probably been asked or maybe even have asked yourself a lot of career questions that begin with the word “what”.  “What career do you want to pursue?”  “What summer internships are best to apply to?” ” What company is the best to work for after graduation?”  But, one fundamental “what” career question you might not have asked yourself before is, “What motivates me to pursue a career in the first place?”  And, here’s a bonus question, “Why?”  There are no correct or even fixed answers to those questions.  But, spending time reflecting on the answers to both of those questions will help you to discover what values, interests, and priorities you have when it comes to searching for the careers you would like to explore in the future.  Watch this video of a talk by behavioral economist, Dan Ariely, about surprising research into attitudes about the meanings people apply towards their work.
